From Bob Dylan to Beyonce, every song tells a story. In this workshop, we’ll be exploring songwriting as a storytelling artform and exploring these questions:
How can elements of storytelling — image, viscerality, setting, narrative voice — make your songs more potent?
How do melodic and harmonic choices change the way a song comes to life?
What are the songs/stories that only you can write?
How can we generate richer raw material and nurture those song ‘seeds’ to reach full bloom?
How can you write from your edge, exploring deeper territory than you've traversed before?

Lecture recordings will be emailed out after each session. The workshop will also include community writing time (like study hall but on zoom!) and the opportunity to join song circles to share your developing work with your fellow students. If you cannot join for the live Saturday class, I invite you to follow along at your own pace with the videos and join us for the other activities, the times of which will be chosen as a group. All levels invited.
